The song
I originally wrote this song as a poem, during the month of May a few years ago. May is my favorite month of the year - flowers are blossoming, the daylight is finally back, the air is filled with hope and beauty. But that year, my heart was so heavy - I was letting go of someone, a version of myself, of my identity, who had been part of my life for a really long time. It felt strange, contrasting and almost surreal to sit with that kind of grief while surrounded by so much life. The outside world didn’t match my inner chaos. I didn’t know what to make of it, what to make of myself and that pain. I was dragging my heart and my body around, heavy with feelings of sadness and unable to convey them with simple words. It felt isolating. So I wrote these words, with the colors and the visuals they gave me, I painted them as I felt them. It felt good and somehow comforting to do so.
